  • Translation

Translation is not just transposing a series of words from one language to another. It is an art of transformation by maintaining the meaning of original text. It must be performed by the experienced linguists to achieve our goals through sharing ideas and resources, focusing on the needs of the clients.

We can, proudly, say that the high quality of our translators form the hallmark of our translation service. Both our in-house and freelance translators are post-graduate linguists who are not only experts in translation, but are also specialists in their own fields. For each project, we use native linguists, who perform in their mother tongue, only. Our linguists compile glossaries/terminologies in-house and use easy-to-understand language sensibly and appropriately.

Our translation covers a wide range of subject areas such as Software Localisation, Website, User Documentation, Maintenance Manual, Brochure, Leaflet, User Manual, User Guide, User Interface, Press Release, Tender, Financial Report, Contract, Agreement, Certificate, Patent, Medical and Legal Document, etc.

We deliver the translated text in exact format or software you require, e.g. MS-Office, PageMaker, MS-Publisher, FrameMaker, QuarkXpress, InDesign, Illustrator, Freehand, HTML, EPS, PDF, etc. along with the fonts.

We can also provide "ready-to-immediate-use" translations as hard copy, on disk, by post, fax or e-mail.

Everyone wants their product to be more user-friendly and more accessible. For this, the description of the products and services should be reachable to the end-users. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the details in their languages. This helps the customer to get a clear picture about the products or services.

We have a good experience in the field of web localisation, translation of toolbars, help files, dialogue boxes, error messages, menus, html, xml, Flash files, etc.

  • SUBTITLING

Subtitling is the written translation (textual versions) of the spoken language (source language) of a film or television programme's dialogue into the language of the viewing audience (the target language); that appears on screen, or an explanatory or alternate title, in addition to the main title of a work.

IndicTrans provides subtitling translation solutions for film, video, DVD, television, commercials, corporate presentations and in-flight videos in Indian languages.

To ensure the best translation of subtitles, we employ native speakers of origin to maintain fluency in their respective languages. Translated subtitle takes far longer to read than listen, therefore, it is carefully edited. This provides a comfortable reading speed for the viewer while maintaining the meaning and impact of the spoken word. We pay great attention to quality and comprehensiveness. No matter how long the original dialogue is, the translated subtitle must not exceed the length and duration of the time that is available (for example, the number of frames). There must also be enough time for the viewer to be able to read the subtitles.

A few basic rules can be followed while subtitling:

    • three seconds are needed to read a line,
    • the subtitled text should be presented centered on its allocated line(s),
    • subtitles should be positioned at the lower part of the screen,
    • a maximum of two lines of subtitles should be presented at a time, and
    • a line of subtitles should not exceed 40 characters.

  • BRAND or PRODUCT NAME EVALUATION

Good naming is the foundation of business. Great branding starts with a great name, and creating a great name involves not only the art of linguistics, but also a good measure of old-fashioned business sense.

A good brand/product name is an absolute necessity, and keeps problems away; AND the wrong choice - brand or product name - can result in real disaster.

Launching your new brand/product in global market may have some risks because of its linguistic and cultural nuances from the view point of end-users you are planning to launch or market to. To ensure that these brand/product names don't convey the negative connotations, obscene meanings and sensitive images, you need to have its suitability evaluated not only for the domestic market, but for foreign buyers with different languages and cultures as well.

At IndicTrans, we evaluate product/brand name for pronunciation issues, aural similarity with existing names and brands in other languages, and appropriateness by focusing on negative connotations or meanings of product, brand or service names.

When evaluating product/brand names for cultural appropriateness, we work with our native speakers who reside in the country where the languages are spoken, and are thus intimately familiar with linguistic and cultural nuances. During this process, we pay special attention on some of the criteria as follows:

    • Is this product/brand name easy to pronounce? If not, why?
    • Does this product/brand name remind you of any existing product, service or company?
    • Are there similar words of this product/brand name in your language?
    • What are the associations or connotations of this product/brand name?
